Spanaway falls within the Bethel School District and is the 13th largest school district in Washington State. It covers 215 miles. The motto of this district is “What’s best for kids”; and they strive to be the best in all that they do. This district covers a wide variety of academics, arts and athletics. The City of Spanaway has six Bethel School District elementary schools located within the city boundaries. The schools include: Campus Prairie, Elk Plain, Evergreen, Prairie Valley, Shining Mountain and Spanaway; four middle schools are located within the city limits. These include: Bethel, Cedarcrest, Frontier and Liberty; and three high schools: Bethel High, Challenger and Spanaway Lake. The Bethel School District also offers on-line classes as well as has one alternative school. Spanaway has many city and county parks available to residents and visitors.
Spanaway Park is located on 135 acres and is quite popular. This park offers a playground with seating for adults, hiking, picnic areas, baseball fields and basketball courts. The newly revamped boat launch offers access to Lake Spanaway for fishing. There are also two beaches for swimming. The parks system offers many activities year round. A resident favorite is Fantasy Lights which run from late November to the first part of January in Spanaway Park. A great family tradition is to drive the 2 1/2 miles around Spanaway Lake during this festival while listening to radio station 93.7. This station allows you to hear holiday music performed by the high school band thus making this adventure even more festive. Spanaway is truly a magical place to live!

Bresemann Forest is another great park located in the neighboring community of Parkland. This park spans 70 acres and is interwoven with many hiking trails, picnic areas and offers great fun for the whole family. The Fort Steilacoom Golf Course is 105 acre course with nine holes, but features dual tees for an 18 hole round. This course is located near Western State Hospital in Lakewood. Chambers Bay Golf Course is located in University Place and is featured to host the 2015 U.S. Open. This course is 950 acres with spectacular views of the Puget Sound all along the course. The course offers military rates and is open to the public. Mall shopping is available in the nearby cities of Puyallup, Lakewood, and Tacoma as well as a whole host of other activities for the whole family.
