The architectural history of Tacoma is rich and includes buildings dating back to 1870’s. Tacoma has eight neighborhood councils.  These neighborhood councils allow the city to keep in touch with the needs of those in the community.  The councils are made up of: Northeast Tacoma, the West End, North End, New Tacoma, Central Tacoma, South Tacoma, Eastside Tacoma, and the South End.

The City of Tacoma operates as a community based team.  This approach allows the community and the city officials to communicate by setting priorities together, work together and to share progress together.  City residents are encouraged to keep their neighborhoods clean and safe so that all residents and visitors can enjoy the beauty surrounding them.

The drive from downtown Tacoma to JBLM is about 22 minutes, almost 14.5 miles.
